The Art Chapbooks are presented as a collection of small affordable books that reveal the nature of contemporary Indian artistic expression.
Told by the artists themselves with selected images of their work, the art chapbooks provide a brief look into creative lives to preserve their narratives in an anecdotal structure.
Each artist will receive a researcher/mentee to work with her/him on the making, editing, titling, design and final production decisions of her/his art chapbook. Interviews will be conducted with the artists to draw out their narratives and to archive an oral record. This mentor/mentee relationship will provide opportunities for aspiring historians and curators.

The Art Chapbooks will be made available with Kala Chaupal membership that includes e-news, newsletters, webinars, and programs.Each artist will receive 10 in the edition of 100 books for their own distribution or collection.
Lina Vincent is an art historian and curator with over 17 years experience with research, design, curation and public art programming. She is committed to socially engaged arts practice that reflects in multidisciplinary projects she has developed and participated in.
Nancy Adajania is a Bombay-based cultural theorist and curator. She has curated and co-curated a number of exhibitions including, the Mehlli Gobhai retrospective ‘Don’t ask me about colour’, National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Bombay, 2020; the Sudhir Patwardhan retrospective ‘Walking Through Soul City’ NGMA, Bombay, 2019; ‘Counter-Canon, Counter-Culture: Alternative Histories of Indian Art’, Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa, 2019 and Navjot’s retrospective ‘The Earth’s Heart Torn Out’, NGMA, Bombay, 2018.
Sandhya Bordewekar Gajjar studied English Literature and Art History at the M S University of Baroda. She is an independent curator and arts writer specialising in art and artists from Baroda and has been writing on these since 1980.
Rajani Prasanna is a distinguished art educator, critic, curator and collector, engaged in creation of art galleries; providing young art students broader learning experience; helping upcoming artists access the art market and catalyzing a vibrant art ecosystem for contemporary art in India. She taught Art History at Sir J. J. School of Arts, Bombay and rose to be the Chair of Art History Department.
Professor Seema Bawa is a Professor specializing in History of South Asian Art and Culture at Department of History, University of Delhi. She was the recipient of DAAD Fellowship to read at the University of Bonn.
Premjish is a Curator, Writer and Translator based in Delhi. His translations have appeared in Indian Literature published by Sahitya Akademi. He has initiated the independent curatorial platform called Future Collaborations aiming at theoretically and politically informed curation.
Is an American artist, known mainly for printed media and large-scale works created by hand papermaking as a medium of expression that often incorporate the use of language. She has curated exhibitions such as Ten Years After 9/11, which respond to issues about the human condition. Helen presently serves as the curator for The Kala Chaupal Trust.
Has a background in advertising and social communication and has worked on subjects such as health, education and agriculture in her role as an Account Planner in key advertising agencies such as J. Walter Thompson and Lowe Lintas. Inspired by her mother who is an artist, she is passionate about arts and culture and believes in Culture4Development . Leenika is the Founder and Managing Trustee for The Kala Chaupal Trust.
